Buck's Cinnaverse

Now on carrd!

What happens when you take the citizens of a regular 21st century city and toss them into situations with demons? Vampires? Gods?

You get, uh... I don't know, some mild shenanigans? Glowing runes on the dock sometimes? An apocalypse? I'm not gonna try to say the ideas expressed in my universe are unique, but I think they're fun, and I hope you do too. Feel free to explore the plot summary document, the lore document, and of course the characters' individual pages. Please excuse the outdated coding and generally unfinished vibe of the joint; I'm still working out the kinks!

Cinnas are a Closed Species created and owned by Feveretro. The Cinnas on this site belong solely to Buck (Toxicroak/Phishfry/Buckshoddy) unless alternate ownership is stated on individual character Toyhou.se profiles. Attempts to steal OCs/artwork will be prosecuted.

GEOGRAPHY

The majority of characters and plots live and take place in and around The City. I never actually named the city, and I probably never will. I refer to it simply as The City (or even Cinn City) in character descriptions, writings, etc. It’s a densely populated city, but you’ll never see the vast majority of the residents. My Cinnas are the main ensemble cast of characters that I choose to highlight. There are thousands of background citizens who will never be characterized.

Cinnas IRL come and go. Thankfully this type of fictional city makes it very easy to come up with a quick explanation for why a Cinna left abruptly, or for why a Cinna who I didn’t acquire until recently has suddenly been a main character the whole time: It’s about focus. “Oh! That Cinna was always there, you just weren’t being told to focus on them.”

City
The city ranges from high-rise buildings at its core (think a typical Downtown area) to little suburbs at the edges.
Docks
The city lies on an oceanic coast, so there are various entertainment piers lining the entire west side. The city also has marine exports, so fishing docks, and pubs along said docks, are common places for seafaring Cinnas stopping for a drink.
Coast
The beach! Plain and simple. There are ceratinly sandy access points for surf and sun, but it gets rather rocky in other places.
Cliffs
Go far enough south on the coast and you get to rocky cliffs with lush green grass. Think of Ireland. Or Norway. I dunno, I've never been to either. The air is clear and the sea mist opens your pores. There is a strip of stores there that has a beautiful view of said cliffs just across the way.

Plains
Extending out from where the cliffside fields meet the northeastern mountains, there are plains for miles and miles to the southeast.
Forest
Quite a few Cinnas who live in the forest are now featured in plot points. Originally thought of as a spooky place, the woods start out as a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees and become strictly coniferous as you go higher in altitude. There's really only one main road that leads from the city up into the mountains, and it lies near the southernmost point. Along the edge of where the trees hit the city there are conserved parks, picnic areas, etc. that are well frequented in the summer. There are a few creeks as well, naturally.
Mountains
Very cold, very stark winters. Snow is permanent at the highest peaks. At least three Cinnas have been confirmed to live there, but visitation is not advised.

GEOGRAPHY CONTD.

THE UNDERGROUND
The Underground, thanks to recent developments, now deserves a proper section all to itself. Way to go, criminals.
A sect of seedy characters that live under the city. Most of the population goes on living their daily lives without even knowing it’s there. But if you take one too many wrong turns down in the subway stations…
If you’re picturing low ceilings and a few weapons stalls, you’re vastly mistaken. The Underground is so expansive that it might as well be classed as its own city. The “ceiling” is so high that you don’t know it’s there. It looks like an incredibly well-established cave city from a fantasy world. Stalls and carts are everywhere, huge tents that host fight clubs, drugs on every corner. The conventional law doesn’t have power down there, and everyone knows it. “Normals” from above ground don’t even try to enact legislation to get it raided and cleaned up. Gangs own territory that they fight to the death over, either with guns or with teeth and claws. It’s a criminal’s paradise.
Due to the makeshift nature of The Underground, housing is incredibly bad. Slum-like buildings have been built by a few shoddy contractors over the 70 years or so it’s been down there, but that’s pretty much it. Poverty is commonplace because drug lords and gamblers run the whole shindig.
Wealthier figureheads either live in The City or in other crime-run cities above ground (i.e. Chicago / NYC equivalents). Giant mansions, built or bought with blood money, have become a bit more common. The families who reside in them are good at what they do, and law enforcement doesn’t have enough evidence to even begin to bring them in for questioning, much less put them behind bars.
More and more people have reported seeing and even interacting with shady characters from the Underground. For whatever reason a select few thugs have started to leak into the “real world”...
DAMASCUS
A very underdeveloped idea, but here’s the basic overview:
In a quirky little town in the California-adjacent desert there’s an abandoned gold rush town that’s been re-populated with a cast of quirky characters. What shenanigans will they get into?
More about these guys will be added later, seeing as a handful of them has a canon design at the moment. Expect dumb western shenanigans.

CULTURE + SOCIETY

This world is what I call 21st Century Adjacent. Certain settlements may not be as developed, whether that be for cultural reasons, religious regions, you name it. Technology on the whole is on par with our IRL timeline. Like English is the official language of the U.S.A., it is also the national language of the continent these characters live on. With that said, Cinnas from other developed countries absolutely exist! You can hear plenty of other accents as you walk through The City.

Since the world is based on our own, there are some socio-political stressors. Cinnacat prejudice is probably the most prominent social issue. In this world, Cinnacats are shorter and more rare (caused genetically by something akin to dwarfism), so they have been judged / stigmatized for the duration of the nation’s history. Thanks to activists in recent decades, society has come a long way, but there are still people with internalized beliefs that Cinnacats are weird, unhealthy, etc. Which they aren’t. Some changes are finally being implemented in newer buildings, like sets of alternate lower door handles, lower shelves, etc. to help accommodate Cinnacats, but of course some crotchety old conservatives disapprove of the quality of life changes even though they literally don’t impact them on a daily basis at all. Ahem. I'm bitter about it.

Cinna anatomy in my world, including typical trait distribution.

Another cause mentioned in writings is the ongoing Environmental Crisis. Global Warming, deforestation, energy conservation, water conservation, etc. all exist in this world as well. It's something I'm passionate about, and so are certain Cinnas in this world.Things start to get weirder with the introduction of angels, demons, vampires, and mutants. Whereas previously humanity was not aware of these individuals, the plot of my Cinnaverse has unveiled their existence, and so people are not really sure what to think about them. My cast is usually accepting / friendly towards these Cinnas, but there is overall social unease about their possible integration into society. The world isn’t exactly ready for a demon governor or anything like that.

CULTURE + SOCIETY CONTD.

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS
As in the real world, different cultures and individuals believe in and worship different things. The general populace is agnostic. However, there are multiple spheres of magic / religion in this world. The most prevalent to my stories are listed here, in order of most to least popular amongst the population.
Anglican Christianity
Cinnas who consider themselves religious are most likely referring to an Anglican religion akin to our modern Christianity... Does this imply the existence of a Cinna Christ? That's so funny. Anyway. To give these guys some credit, the population as a whole was completely unaware of the existence of anything supernatural until very recently. Nowadays, however, it's becoming apparent that this belief system is rather baseless, as phenomenon previously called "miracles" can be attributed to a number of sources, most notably the local chapter of elemental Deities.
Natural Magic
Magic energy exists in the universe, though most humans / mortals do not have access to it. This kind of magic is more akin to that of D&D, including Fae magic. Those few Cinnas who have studied to access it -- or perhaps had innate magical ability -- usually live alone, away from other people, and practice it for personal reasons only. Cinnas who believe in and utilize magic obviously do not follow Anglican Christianity. With that said, they also also do not inherently "worship" the elemental Deities.
Elemental Deities
These guys have their proper section here. I will mention, however, that in the modern day, worshipping the Deities and Old Gods is seen as archaic, out of date, old world, etc. Joke's on them, considering recent events.
Other
There are other established religions in the world that I did not list here, since no known cast members practice them.

SUPERNATURALS
Society is recently coming to terms with the existence of Non-Humans. The most common non-human, aka Supernatural, beings are listed here, though they may be talked about more in depth on other pages of the website.
Angels and Demons
I've had a really hard time keeping information about these guys contained to one section, since their existence was so important to the plot and furthering of many, many, many in-universe things. Socially they are rarely "accepted" amongst mortals, though my cast specifically is more forgiving. Anatomical details about them are on the previous page. More lore/mythos related information is here.
Paranormal
Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, you name it and it’s here. Most follow the basic rules for their species (vamps are immortal, turned by biting, etc.). Mortals as a whole did not previously know of their existence (because let’s be real, they don’t know shit about anything), but after the events of the False Apocalypse, more and more Supernaturals have made themselves known, and so more of the public is in on it. Characters from other planes have yet to really comment on this? But the consensus is that the Mortal Plane is just kind of… Like That.
Mutants
Some mortal Cinnas who would not usually have access to the natural magic of the world seem to have genetically mutated / "evolved" at some point and now exhibit rather extraordinary powers... Cinnas with less visible or more controlled mutations have lived stealthily amongst mortals for decades.
Aliens
Very much a WIP. There are a few alien hunters in my cast, and while they aren’t usually on Earth at all, I imagine they will interact with the rest of the cast eventually, on occasion.

MYTHOS + LORE

This universe is a bastardized mish-mash of a ton of religions, myths, sources, etc. It may be a mess, but it’s my mess. These sections get very messy and I’m sorry; I’m still trying to work out the order / organization.DEITIES
To put it simply, the “Deities”, as I call them, are minor gods. They control and monitor basic aspects of nature, like the ocean, the weather, and so on, and have varying levels of power and importance. There are hundreds of deities that all control similar things, and so usually a local group of deities picks one of each to act as a chapter or council. They function out of the thin veil that is the Celestial Plane, which allows them to live alongside mortals without letting the latter know of their presence.
The local council of deities (presiding over The City + surrounding areas) is as follows:

Geo - Deity of gravity. It’s not known if he directly controls gravity or if he just monitors it and makes sure it’s working appropriately. He is the self-appointed (but not contested) head of this council due to the great nature of his powers.
Elgantine - Deity of weather. He resides in the mountains on the Mortal Plane rather than the Celestial one so that he can directly observe the weather via a large, complex computer system. Lives with Shiro, who is his partner.
Shiro - Deity of weather, but more specifically thunderstorms. It’s unusual for a council to have two deities who represent the same element. Has a “brother”, Shima, who was born of the same soul and later split.
Deloros - Deity of the ocean, or at least the one The City lies next to. She is the only woman on the council and often gets teased by Geo, whom she despises.

The local chapter of deities.

Other known deities / gods that do not sit on this council include:

Shima - Deity of volcanic activity. Kind of like the Land to Shiro’s Sky. He does not live near The City, instead still presiding over the easternmost island nations. He is very hospitable and walks among the mortals rather than keeping hidden from them, which is a controversial but effective methodology.
Rosmarinus - WIP (Dragons have much more power than the other deities and are more likely connected to the actual Old Gods.)
Unnamed Green Dragon - WIP (Dragons have much more power than the other deities and are more likely connected to the actual Old Gods.)
Sunsetter - God of Dawn / Dusk. Originally thought of as a deity thanks to his Cinnadog form. Power details are TBD.

PLANES OF EXISTENCE
There are multiple now-known planes of existence, and many more that are still unknown. As the story expands upon each one I will add them here.

Mortal Plane
Where most of the story happens. Humans’ domain.
Celestial Plane
A thin veil that exists between the Mortal Plane and the Other Stuff. The elemental Deities are the only ones with access to this one-way mirror realm, from which they do their business and watch the mortals.
Angelic Plane / "Heaven"
Not Christian Biblical Heaven as we know it, seeing as though there is no one singular God in this universe. Where angels and the like hail from. Apparently it runs like a business.
Demonic Plane / "Hell"
Not Christian Biblical Hell as we know it. Where demons and the like hail from. Apparently it runs like a business.
Faerie Plane
Fae creatures exist here. The only known gate to this plane is in the woods.
Elemental Plane
Initially referred to as the Plane of Wishmakers because the only Jinn we knew was Adrianus and that’s his sub-class. It’s a unique realm with totally different geography from that of the Mortal Plane. Elemental creatures here are divided into kingdoms based on their elements. Examples are Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Shade, Arcane, Light, etc.
*Eldritch Plane *
Though virtually nothing has come to light about a truly Eldritch plane, one sinister Cinna in particular sure does dip his toes into horrible shit all the time, so there’s gotta be a plane he’s pulling it from… right?

MORE ABOUT THE PLANESFaerie Plane / Fae Wild
As if there weren’t enough conflicting elements to this, Fae creatures absolutely exist. Sometimes called the Fae Wild by those in the know, this plane is an exact geographical copy of the Mortal Plane, but without the developed / technological parts (i.e. no skyscrapers). It is entirely magic-run. I imagine it has super washed out bright colors, to really emphasize the dreamlike quality of it.
Fae creatures are hard to come by in my Cinnaverse because they stay on their plane almost exclusively.
(WIP.)
Elemental Plane
The Elemental Plane, as we’ve been told so far, is a place where Jinn, and potentially other Supernaturals, live as regular citizens. It is geographically completely different from the Mortal Plane. The number of different nations that have claimed territory in this world is ridiculously high. Pretty much any natural element you can think of (Earth, Fire, Water) has a kingdom there, though the size of their territory varies greatly.
Angels and Demons, Expanded Upon
The people of the Angelic and Demonic Planes have a very tense relationship that actually started a war in the mortal plane not too long ago. The Apocalypse Arc, as I called it, was the first major conglomerate of plots for my Cinnaverse, and if you know anything about my universe, you likely know it’s “got angels and stuff in it”. The existence of Heaven and Hell in a world seemingly primarily run by polytheistic nature gods is… interesting, to say the least. The two theistic groups appear to run completely separately from one another, at least for now.

Angelic Plane
Heaven looks like an elaborate office building and functions accordingly. There is a definitive power ranking, apparently, because Vaasa has been confirmed to be the 5th most powerful angel in Heaven on multiple occasions. Heaven is characterized as being very strict, the definition of lawful good. It is possible for angels to fall, either by choice or upon being banished.
It seems that the angels are focused primarily on overseeing and protecting the mortals, though a few have said in passing that Heaven does, in fact, have well kept armies and an entire sect dedicated to fighting Hell. What are they even fighting for? Who’s telling them what to do? Anglican Christians believe these to be truly biblical servants of God, but those with knowledge of the larger magics in the world have a different theory.Angels reside in Heaven (or, temporarily, with mortals) and are identifiable primarily by their feathered wings.

Demonic Plane
Hell, like Heaven, is also run like a business, but a very, very shitty one. Mutinies are common, bloodshed even more so, and they can’t seem to keep a king on the throne for more than a few years no matter what they do. Their main focus seems to be Conquest, seeing as they came to blows with the angels in an attempt to take over their plane. Yikes.
Demons have a degree of free will that whoever Hell’s creator was obviously didn’t accomodate for when they set the whole shindig up. Very commonly, demons just decide to leave Hell, completely abandoning their tasks, and for some reason the higher ups can’t get that under control. Maybe they just don’t prioritize it over trying to fight Heaven constantly.Demons reside primarily in Hell, but can live literally anywhere else. They are identifiable by colored sclera, scales, horns, etc. They’re pretty hard to miss.

CHRONOLOGY

As of now I have been keeping a running Google Document that has a summary of all major character introductions and plot points of my Cinnaverse. It is extremely old, needs complete rewrites, re-organizing, and updating to reflect current plot points. Nevertheless, here is the link to said Google Doc.DISCLAIMER: IT IS VERY LONG AND A LITTLE BIT CRINGE.xoxo

CAST

I have attempted to code and keep up with Cinnaverse websites / Carrds before, and I have found that every single time, without fail, I eventually fall behind on updating images on the site. Therefore, rather than attempt a visual gallery here on Carrd, I have a link to my Cinnaverse Toyhou.se page! It is newly coded to match the website theme and has a very handy folder menu. <3

I will eventually come back and pretty this page up, but not now.

interact

Think of this portion like an old school ask blog! If you or one of your Cinnas would like to ask any of my Cinnas something, start some sort of small roleplay (RP) scene, or interact with them in any other way, send in a message! For the form, leave the name I would most likely know you by (usernames work too!), the email address you'd like to receive messages to, and then type away! This will be treated like an open-ended RP, so just have fun with it! Super informal here; you can set the style with your OG message and I will adapt to it.If you don't want to RP as one of your Cinnas, type (OOC) before your message!
